Biomedical Engineering Network Summer By-Laws  Summer 2009

Article I. UTD Biomedical Engineering Network

 

 

 

Article II. Purpose.

 

The mission of the UTD Biomedical Engineering Network is to inspire students and faculty to develop and apply engineering methods to current developing health issues.

 

 

Article III. Membership.

 

Section 1. Membership shall be open to students of The University of Texas at Dallas regardless of sex (unless specifically exempt by law), race, color, religion, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

 

Section 2. Membership must be limited to UT Dallas students, faculty and staff Section 3. Target Audience: ECS Faculty, undergrad and graduate students interested in the future of Biotechnology.

 

 

 

Article IV. Officers.

 

Section 1. The officers of the organization will be: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Liaison, and Webmaster.

 

Section 2. The officers of the organization must be in good standing with the University.

 

Section 3. The duties of the officers shall consist of the following:

 

President: Shall preside over regular and executive meetings, coordinate group activities, and communicate with the officers and advisor on all matters.

 

Vice President: shall assist president and preside over meetings in the absence of the president.

 

Secretary: shall record minutes at all business meetings, check attendance at functions, and receive and review excuses for absences.

 

Treasurer: shall collect dues, pay bills, oversee other monetary transactions including fund raising and social activities, and prepare and maintain the annual budget.

 

Public Relations Liaison: shall contact companies and alumni to coordinate industry speakers for meetings.

 

Webmaster: Design website and regularly update pages for current information; Send pertinent messages on list serve and Facebook

 

 

Section 4. Elections for all officer positions shall be held at the last general meeting of the spring semester. An additional election can be held as necessary at the last general meeting of the fall semester for vacated positions.

 

A quorum must be present and a simple majority vote will win.

 

 

Section 5.

 

Current Officers:

 

President / Treasurer  : Joel-Anthony Gray

 

Vice-President: Devansh Trivedi

 

Public Relations Liason: Felix Tang

 

Webmaster:  Amba Kalur

 

 

Section 1. The Faculty Advisor shall be appointed annually by the Chapter/Department/University.

 

Section 2. The following is expected of the Faculty Advisor:

 

The advisor shall be a University of Texas at Dallas faculty member.

 

The advisor will be willing to obtain an appropriate level of experience, resource information and knowledge related to the mission, purpose and activities of the club.

 

The advisor will assist the organization with the development of goals and objectives for the academic year.

 

The advisor will be aware of the University Student Rules and will assist the organization with adherence to these expectations.

Article VI. Activities

 

Section 1. Meetings will be held every other Thursday at 8:30 p.m in ECSS 2.201. The tentative meeting dates for Fall 2009:

 

Section 2: Plans are being made to take tours of UT Southwestern's Biomedical Engineering Labs. We are also looking forward to going to UT Metroplex Day featuring UT Southwestern, UT Arlington and UT Dallas. The one-day event brings awareness of interdisciplinary biomedical research. Tentative Date: March 6, 2009

 

Section 3: We would also like to have a panel discussion this semester with potential industry employers talking about what they look for in their employees and qualifications necessary to succeed in the biomedical field.

 

 

 

Article VII. Goals

 

Some of the goals we would like to pursue this semester would be: enhancing relationships with industries for possible internship and co-op opportunities, building a group website, and setting up a strong foundation for the group to develop in the future years. If we could find an office space to occupy, that would be a nice beginning to get everything organized for our group.

 

 

 

 

Article VIII. Tentative Plan for Fund Allotment

 

As of now, the only funding we need is for our food at the meetings. As a new organization, our main priority is getting people out to our meetings. The main tool we would use is refreshments since our meetings are held at night. Pizza, soda and utensils would be our only cost.
